Regarding “Belden Elementary hopes less stress leads to better grades” (Nov. 24), about the new counseling/therapy sessions in one of the Canton city schools: This is nothing more than a continuation of the failed policies of the National Education Association and the Great Society.
As long as our public schools concentrate on parenting rather than teaching, and continue to concentrate on self-esteem, with the absence of discipline and consequences, we will continue the downward spiral in achievement levels that began some years ago.
Yes, I, too, feel for these kids, but until parents are held responsible and show some sort of accountability, nothing will change. The function of our schools should be to teach, not to take the place of parents.
